Christmas Break is here!

And while it’s an exciting time, it’s also a little bit overwhelming for parents!

Especially in 2020, when gatherings are minimal, activities aren’t the same, and you may not be seeing family or friends in the same way you’re used to, you might be thinking – What in the world am I going to do with my kids for the next couple of weeks?

Stay tuned!

Whether you’re a parent or pastor, I have some Christmas break boredom busters in this post that I know will keep everyone entertained – and bonus points – many of them are Christ-focused and will allow you to have quality family time! (or drink your coffee in peace too – because that matters as well!)

Bible Bingo from Bible Games Central

We have had so much fun playing Bible Bingo as a family since we received it from Bible Games Central! It is simple, fun, and bonus!, your kids will actually learn something. It’s been amazing to hear my 3-year old saying the Books of the Bible as we play, and asking what the pictures represent.

The game comes with 24, double-sided Bingo cards to keep it fresh, and plastic bingo chips. It keeps the game fresh and makes it reusable. Plus, the shipping is super quick (even here in Canada, I got the games in less than 2 weeks, which is a COVID miracle, but if you’re in the US, the website says 1-3 days)! You can purchase it here!

Parable Parade from Bible Games Central

This is another super fun – and unique! – game from Bible Games Central. The goal of this game is to form sets of Parable Cards – there are 12 in the game altogether. The game comes with these colorful summary cards of each parable, as well as fun, bright colored parable cards! Your whole family will love playing this game, and it will definitely bring out your competitive side! It’s small enough to tuck in your bag if you are travelling this Christmas season! You can purchase it here.

PS. Bible Games Central has a TON of free Christmas games that you can download, print and play with your family! If you’re a children’s ministry leader, why not consider printing a bunch and mailing them to your families? Or just send them the link to download! You can find the awesome list here.

Crafts, Crafts & More Crafts!

I cannot even tell you HOW many crafts we have done this December. Setting out a craft kit that is self-contained gives me at least a few minutes to enjoy a coffee or unload the dishwasher in the morning! We’ve tried to focus on crafts that focus on Jesus this Christmas season – and our favourites come from Oriental Trading. (Pro Tip: If you’re in Canada, check out Open a Party, their sister Canadian company!)

While you might not get these in time for Christmas, you could very well have them in time to pass the long days of Christmas break (or even just winter!). These are super cute, and this was one of Levi’s favorites!

If you don’t want the hassle of ordering online, there are some really fun nativity crafts here from Happy Home Fairy, and some more ideas here!

Work through a take-home box together!

I love creating take-home boxes for families to use together – with fun challenges, activities, and a devotional! Christmas break is the perfect opportunity to work through some of these activities together, and to spend some time focused on a particular theme in God’s Word! You can find all Equip Family’s take home resources here.

Dive into some books!

This might seem cliche, but seriously – there’s nothing better than everyone sitting around the Christmas tree, snuggled up with a good book. I shared my top 10 Christmas story books here, but it honestly doesn’t matter what you’r reading. It could be a fun time to get started on a Reading Challenge like this one from Everyday Reading.

Listen to some podcasts!

I’ve always been a huge podcast listener, but lately, we’ve been getting into letting Levi listen to podcasts too! There are some great kids’ ones out there that are fun, wholesome and entertaining. Here are a few favourites so far:

These are just a few ideas that can serve you and your family, or the families in your ministry, over this Christmas season! i’d love to hear what you do to keep boredom away, and keep your kids focused on Jesus this Christmas break! Feel free to reach out and leave a comment.

PS. If you don’t subscribe to our email list already, make sure you do! You’ll get 10 Free Family Challenges just for signing up!
